Local identity
Chocó has both Pacific and Caribbean coasts. River basins, rainforests and Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities are central to the territory.
Quibdó is the capital, in the Atrato basin. Nuquí and Bahía Solano are gateways to the Chocó Pacific; Acandí and surrounding settlements connect to the Caribbean. Pacific humpback-whale watching is usually arranged between July and October with operators who respect approach rules. Travel depends on weather and air or maritime operations.
Culture & traditions
Chirimía music, alabaos chants and Afro-Colombian and Indigenous traditions. The San Pacho festivities in Quibdó are on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
