Antioquia

“Mountains, towns and the Urabá coast”

Local identity

Antioquia brings together the cities of the Aburrá Valley, southwestern coffee towns, eastern reservoirs and a Caribbean coastline in Urabá.

Medellín is the department’s capital. In the east, Guatapé and El Peñol offer reservoir landscapes and the history of towns transformed by its construction. Jardín and Jericó preserve the architecture and crafts of the coffee-growing southwest; Santa Fe de Antioquia introduces regional history beside the Cauca River. Distances and climate vary greatly between mountains, valleys and coast.

Culture & traditions

Coffee traditions, muleteering, carriel leatherwork in Jericó, music and regional food. The department is also home to Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, particularly in Urabá and other rural areas.
