Amazonas
“Rivers, rainforest and communities in the far south”
Local identity
Leticia and Puerto Nariño are the two municipalities of Amazonas. The river and its tributaries shape much of everyday life and travel.
Leticia is the capital, on the border with Brazil and Peru. Puerto Nariño is a base for places such as the Tarapoto lakes, where wildlife viewing varies with water levels and the season. Arrange trips with local operators and communities; dolphin and other wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
Culture & traditions
Diverse Indigenous peoples and languages, including the Tikuna. Cassava, casabe flatbread and various fish dishes are part of local cuisines.
Check the forecast and destination conditions before leaving. Weather varies with altitude and area; confirm opening hours, capacity and protected-area closures.
